2018 in Review

For Friends members and volunteers, 2018 has a long list of highlights. Take a look through the year by the numbers…

13: Friends members were also able to fund thirteen projects, programs and space improvements at branches around the City. Learn more about what was funded here.

8 & 9: Members and the public were invited to be part of the opening of Central Library’s 8th and 9th floors. The VPL rolled out the green carpet for everyone to show off the new rooms, spaces and green roof in the top library floors. The best part for members? They helped make it possible! Donations from Friends members and events helped fund this space for Vancouver residents to connect.

271: book’mark, the library store, has now been welcoming customers for 271 months! The 20 regular volunteers are ready to help them find what they need from 15,818 items and 340 used books currently in stock!

100+ Members: In 2018, over 100 folks became Friends members! Becoming a member has some great benefits, but they tell us, the best part is knowing they are making Vancouver Public Library a better place for everyone. Encourage your friends and family to become members today!

2: Many people consider the Friends Used Book Sales the event of the season. This year, Friends tried something new and had just two, one in the spring and one if the fall. These were also held in the concord of Central Branch, rather than in the moat. This new format gave our dedicated book’mark volunteers some new challenges, but there were also many new faces at the sale. Come to the next sale May 2-4, 2019!

120: Friends loves our 120+ volunteers and they love Friends. Friends members give hundreds hours of their time staffing book’mark, organizing and sorting for the used book sale, running Friends social media accounts and even helping to recruit more volunteers! Learn more about how you can volunteer here.
